The first step in learning to wear a beret is to understand exactly how to place it on your head. Berets are designed to be worn to the side:
- Place the beret on your head with the edge about 1-1.5 cm from your ears and 3/4 of the way up your forehead. The back should reach to the back of your neck but should fit comfortably.
- Tuck the brim: push the brim upwards and inwards, pulling the fabric of the edge of the beret down and over the brim so it's not visible.
- Position the beret correctly: lower one side of the beret and place it over your ear so it sits at the right angle.
- Adjust the beret until you find a balance and look good. Adjusting a beret is an art. There's no "right" way to wear a beret; it's how you feel you look best. Lowering the beret more over the ear creates a more dramatic look, but it also flattens the beret. Pull up on the top of the beret to reduce the slant and achieve a fuller look.
