The distinctive feature of the Green Bottle Blucher is its open closure system, where the eyelets for the laces are sewn onto the upper part of the shoe, in contrast to the Oxford, where the eyelets are sewn underneath the vamp. Its origins are military and its name comes from the Prussian general Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher.
